Sciatic Pain Hasn't got a chance!
If you have suffered from sciatic pain you know that it can be debilitating. The sciatic is the longest nerve in our body. It runs from the lower back lumbar spine, underneath the glute or buttocks muscles, down both legs and ends at the heel of the feet. It can be brought on by irritation and/or compression of the path of the sciatic nerve.
Patients describe a range of pain—from a mild leg cramp to excruciating pain radiating from the back, across the buttocks and down the leg. This pain can sometimes limit the ability to walk and can be aggravated when we lay down to sleep.
There is hope however! This is where reflexology can be so effective. You see, when we are in pain, we tend to contract our muscles. Contracted muscles cause more pain and in response we keep contracting our muscles. Reflexology, by inducing deep relaxation, can stop this painful cycle even if it’s only for a short time. Reflexology simply allows the body to relax so it can do what it does best and heal the body.
Clients often complain of lower back pain when they come in for treatments. There are markers in the feet that indicate that the pain could be more directed towards the sciatic nerve. Along with working the whole foot for total body relaxation, we also work specific reflex points in the foot or hand that corresponds with the sciatic, spine, and hip areas, which induces healing in those areas. Clients have found immediate and long-term relief from reflexology.
